For iPhone and iPad

The CSV viewer and editor for iPhone and iPad

Open a CSV from Files, iCloud Drive, Mail or any app, and see it as a proper table: columns lined up, the header on top, and every row a swipe away.

How to open a CSV file on iPhone or iPad

  1. Install Smart CSV from the App Store.
  2. Find the CSV file in the Files app, in a Mail attachment, or in any app that has it.
  3. Tap Share and choose Smart CSV. Or open Smart CSV, tap + → Open CSV, and pick the file from iCloud Drive, Google Drive or On My iPhone.
  4. The file opens as a table. Smart CSV has already worked out the separator and the encoding; if the preview looks right, tap Looks right and start working.

More than a preview

Quick Look shows you a CSV. Smart CSV lets you work with it. Search every cell, sort by up to three columns, and build filters that show how many rows match before you apply them. Tap a cell twice to edit it, or open the whole row as a form. Everything can be undone.

When you need answers rather than rows, ask theAI assistant in plain words, or writeSQL against your file. Turn columns of numbers into achart, or the whole table into aPDF or an Excel workbook.

Big files, smoothly

Smart CSV imports a file into a small database on your iPhone and reads it a page at a time. Files with hundreds of thousands of rows scroll like short ones, and search and sort stay quick. A big file shows a progress bar the first time; after that it opens instantly.

Any CSV, any language

Comma, semicolon, tab, pipe or space separated; UTF-8, UTF-16, Shift_JIS, GB18030, EUC-KR and Windows code pages. Title lines above the header are skipped, files without a header get column names, and the app itself speaks 47 languages.

Questions

Can the iPhone open a CSV file without an app?

The Files app can show a quick preview of a small CSV, but you can’t sort, filter, search or edit it there, and big files often won’t preview at all. Numbers can open it, but it converts the file into a spreadsheet. Smart CSV keeps it a CSV.

Why does my CSV look like one column, or show strange letters?

The separator or the text encoding was guessed wrong. In Smart CSV, tap ⋯ → Import options and pick another separator or encoding while you watch the preview. See Import options.

Does Smart CSV work on iPad?

Yes. On iPad the table uses the whole screen, and with a keyboard attached you can move with the arrow keys, press Enter to edit and use the usual shortcuts. See Keyboard shortcuts.

Will editing change the file in iCloud Drive?

No. Smart CSV works on its own copy, so the file in iCloud Drive stays as it was. When the original changes on another device, Smart CSV offers the newer version. To send your edits on, share the file.
